Our Story

First Baptist Church of Smithfield is a small hometown Southern Baptist Church located in North Richland Hills, Texas with a rich heritage spanning back to our meager beginnings in August 1895 on the Western Frontier of Texas. Many things have changed, including our community but our church still proclaims Jesus Christ is Lord. As a member of the  Southern Baptist Convention, we align with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) and affiliate with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention.

FBC Smithfield is devoted to preaching and teaching God's inerrant and inspired Word, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer as outlined by the Book of Acts 2:42. Each Sunday Morning at 10:45 AM, Danny Smith our pastor, preaches with passion, a text-driven expository sermon from the Bible and leads the church to live Christ-centered as we live out the Great Commission.

Pastor Danny and La'Tonia have served the body of Christ in the past thirty years, with three being here at FBC of Smithfield. Pastor Danny holds a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary. Mrs. La'Tonia serves the church in many ways but primarily helps with children on Wednesday night.

Pastor Danny and La'Tonia were college sweethearts and have been married for thirty-six years with five children and three grandchildren.

A Letter From Our Pastor

Welcome to Our First Baptist Family

At First Baptist, we believe that God doesn’t make mistakes, nor does He work through coincidences. You are here, reading this letter, because God has a purpose for you. He has placed you in this moment for a reason. Ask yourself: Why has God led me here? What is He calling me to do? I’d love to help you explore these questions—feel free to reach out to me directly or fill out our connect form.

Our Promise to You

We value your privacy and won’t visit your home unless you invite us to. However, we want you to know that we are here to pray for you and welcome you with open arms whenever you decide to join us for worship.

About First Baptist Church

We are a church "on the move," located at the corner of Main and Smithfield Road. Our congregation is filled with excitement and anticipation for the plans and growth God has in store—not just within our church but throughout our neighborhood and community.

Our mission centers on family, because we believe family is at the heart of God’s work. Everything we do is rooted in building stronger families and fostering connection.

I hope to meet you and your loved ones one of these Sundays.

Blessings to you and your family,

Pastor Danny

Ministry Opportunities

At David’s Tent, people of all ages—young and old—come together in unity to fervently worship God. Since 2012, this sacred space has been filled with nonstop worship, lifting up the name of Jesus. During the Presidential inauguration, a group from Idaho and the pastor’s wife felt called by God to pray for the Capitol, our country, and the nation as a whole. Participating in God’s work—listening for His voice, seeking His guidance, and walking in obedience—deepens one’s faith and connection to Him. Truly, in God we trust.

As instruments fill the space with music, God’s Word is proclaimed, and heartfelt prayers are offered. Visitors are warmly invited to join in and read from a Bible that has been read cover to cover numerous times, leaving their place for the next person to continue the legacy. Some may even experience the stirring sound of shofars—the ram’s horn—filling the air with a sense of awe and divine significance. The sound may remind you of the breath of life God gave you, a call to battle, or a triumphant shout of victory.

The experience is a profound blessing—one that speaks directly to the heart and soul of all who come.

What We Believe

Lead By Jesus, Guided By Scripture

At our core, we lead by the example set by Jesus and ground our actions in the wisdom provided to us through Scripture. These guiding principles shape our mission and inspire us to serve our community with love and compassion. Join us on this journey of faith, where we strive to reflect His teachings in everything we do.

Our Core Beliefs

The Bible

The Bible, encompassing both the Old and New Testaments, is divinely inspired and stands as the inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.

God

There is one God who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully human. Born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life and provided atonement for our sins through His death on the cross. By the power of the Holy Spirit, His body was resurrected, and He ascended to sit at the right hand of God the Father. He lives forever, interceding on behalf of His Church. Following His ascension, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to empower believers in Jerusalem, equipping them to carry out His commands.

Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 29:19

Jesus Christ

Born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life and provided atonement for our sins through His death on the cross. By the power of the Holy Spirit, His body was resurrected, and He ascended to sit at the right hand of God the Father. He lives forever, interceding on behalf of His Church. Following His ascension, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to empower believers in Jerusalem, equipping them to carry out His commands.

Matthew 1:22-23Isaiah 9:6John 1:1-5Hebrews 4:14-151 Corinthians 15:3-4

Holy Spirit

We believe in the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The Holy Spirit works to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He dwells within every believer, guiding and equipping them for a life of service. We affirm the gifts of the Holy Spirit as described in Scripture and believe they remain active and relevant today when exercised in alignment with biblical principles.

Romans 8:9, John 26; 16:131 Corinthians 6:19-20; 12-14

Salvation

All people are naturally separated from God and accountable for their sins. However, salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to everyone through the grace of God—His undeserved love—made possible by our Lord Jesus Christ. When someone places their faith in Christ as their Savior, they are immediately born again, forgiven of all their sins, and sealed by the Holy Spirit. In that moment, they become a child of God, assured of eternal life with the Lord.

John 3:16-19, Romans 5:8-9, Ephesians 1:13-14, Titus 3:5

The Church

Church governance should be straightforward, free from unnecessary bureaucracy. Leadership within the church is established through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, grounded in the teachings of Scripture.

1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9

The New Testament

The New Testament establishes two key ordinances: water baptism and the Lord's Supper. These practices are observed out of obedience to the commands of Jesus Christ, serving as expressions of love and devotion. However, they are not prerequisites for salvation.

Matthew 28:9-20, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:24-25

The End Times

We believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the Church and the anticipated return of Jesus Christ with His Church to reign on earth during the millennial kingdom. Christ's rule will be both physical and personal. Additionally, we affirm the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved—the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to eternal judgment.

1Thessalonians 4:13-18, Revelation 3:10; 19:11-16;20:1-15

Our Core Values

Family

Spirtually strong families create a spirtually strong church community.

Community

Creating a strong community of belivers within the church creates opprinutunity to reach the broader community of non-believers.

Evangelism

Sharing the Good News of the Gospel is one of the many commands God gives his church.

Discipleship

Discipleship is the biblical mandate to train believers to be the hands and feet of Jesus that witness to the world
